STEP 1 – CLEANSE

Whether you use the Gentle Cleanser (for normal-to-dry skin) or the Foaming Gel (for normal-to-oily skin or those prone to acne), the first step in this system is to gently cleanse surface dirt and impurities. The buck stops here, because there’s no reason to put anything else on your skin if it isn’t clean first. I’ve tried both cleansers, and with each product I was stunned at how thoroughly the skin was cleansed without leaving it dull/dry/flaky, as sometimes happens with harsher cleansing products. After using these products, I’d never go back to another cleanser. Use one of these cleansers both morning and night to open up pores and prepare for the next steps in the system.

STEP 2 – TONE

Toner is essential in every skincare routine. It opens up the pores, restores the acid mantle to the skin (that barrier that keeps moisture and nutrients in), and restores normal pH levels to your skin. Among other ingredients, the Obagi Nu-Derm Toner contains witch hazel and aloe, which is are anti-inflammatory agents. The Toner protects and calms the skin. After a good cleansing, this toner feels incredibly fresh. This toner should be used whenever you cleanse the skin (ideally morning and night).

STEP 3 – CLEAR

The Obagi Nu-Derm Clear is a unique and essential part of the treatment phase of this skincare routine. It contains 4% hydroquinone, a prescription-only skin lightening agent, which will work wonders for freckles/sun spots, hyper pigmentation (melasma), and age spots. This amazing product will even out and blend your skin tone for skin that looks so much more healthy and youthful! Use morning and night.

STEP 4 – EXFOLIATE

Obagi Nu-Derm Exfoderm contains 6% phytic acid; it’s a lightweight lotion that helps exfoliate the top layer of the skin, removing dull, old skin cells, while revealing new skin cells for a brighter complexion. As we age, our skin does not exfoliate dead skin cells as quickly as it did in the spring of youth, leaving it dull and looking almost gray. Obagi Exfoderm (or Obagi Exfoderm Forte for oily skin) does an amazing job exfoliating those dead cells and revealing bright, fresh, more youthful-lookin skin underneath. Use in the morning only.

STEP 5 – BLEND

Blender is another product containing prescription 4% hydroquinone for the gradual lightening of hyperpigmentation, such as dark spots, sun spots, age spots, melasma, and other types of discoloration. We already did that with Clear… why another one? Because Nu-Derm Blender is specifically designed to blend with Retin-A (Obagi Tretinoin, a prescription-only cream sold separately from the Obagi Nu-Derm System) to dramatically boost the effects of both. You put a little of each one on your hand, and literally blend them together before applying that mixture to your face. Honestly, these two products are like magic in a tube… each one is great, but when combined… magic. Use Blender in the evening only, with Tretinoin, to maximize the benefits overnight.

STEP 6 – HYDRATE

After all the treatments, it’s time to hydrate. Obagi Hydrate is a moisturizing cream to be used as needed to soothe areas of dry, flaky skin. Your skin will love this and absolutely soak it up! Hydrate’s key ingredients are Hydromanil, shea butter, mango butter, avocado, and glycerin that work effectively to create a moisture barrier on your skin that lasts for hours. STEP 7 – PROTECT
